Nothing says July 4th like an old-fashioned picnic, and what makes the perfect picnic. I think we can all agree, it's the dessert! We know that West Virginia cooks are famous for their down-home desserts, and this year at the Mountain State Art and Craft Fair, we want to give those great cooks a chance to shine at the 2025 MSACF dessert contest! Cakes, cookies, cobblers, pies, and all types of sweet confections are welcome at this one-of-a-kind contest.

Contest Details
When: Friday, July 4
· Entries accepted at 3:00 pm
· Judging begins at 3:45 pm
· Presentation of awards 4:15 pm
Where: Educational Stage
Contest Rules:
Participants may enter a dessert of their choice (e.g., pie, cake, cobbler, cookies). All desserts will be entered in one category.
Desserts must contain at least 1 WV food product (fruit, vegetable, honey, maple syrup, jam, jelly, herb, spice, etc.)
5 Extra points will be awarded for the use of 3 or more WV products
Participants must provide one copy of their recipe, clearly naming the WV products used, a list of all ingredients, and preparation steps.
If your dessert requires refrigeration, please bring ice packs or other cooling devices to maintain a safe temperature for your dessert.
All contestants are responsible for removing their dessert immediately after the awards ceremony.
By entering the contest, all participants grant MSACF the right to publish their recipe and or pictures of desserts in social media, our website, and/or future print marketing materials.
Age Groups:
· There are two age groups of competition:
Ø Youth: ages 5 to 11 as of the contest date
Ø Adults: ages 12 to 100 as of the contest date
Judging
Desserts will be judged using the following criteria:
Ø Use of WV products
Ø Adherence to contest rules
Ø Taste
Ø Texture
Ø Appearance
Ø Creativity
Ø Flavor
The decision of the judges is final
Prizes
· Adults
Ø 1st place: Blue ribbon, and $50
Ø 2nd place: Red ribbon, and $35
Ø 3rd place: White ribbon, and $15
· Youth
Ø 1st place, Blue ribbon, and $25
Ø 2nd place, Red ribbon, and $15
Ø 3rd place: White ribbon, and $10
